Terms of Service

These terms govern use of the Critter Car website and submission of transportation requests. A written quote, confirmation, intake, signed agreement, or Cats in the City service agreement may add to or replace these general terms for a particular service.

Transportation requests are not automatically accepted. A form, call, email, text, or deposit submission does not by itself guarantee service. Critter Car must review and confirm the route and service details.

1. Who we are

Critter Car provides appointment-based pet ground transportation and operates as part of the Cats in the City care system in Portland, Oregon. References to “Critter Car,” “we,” “us,” or “our” include the applicable Cats in the City entity, personnel, and authorized service providers involved in the website or transportation service.

2. Eligibility and authority

You must be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to arrange transportation for the animal, provide the submitted information, authorize relevant communications, and agree to applicable charges. You agree not to impersonate another person or arrange transport without required guardian, owner, agency, rescue, clinic, airline, or receiving-party authority.

3. Requests, confirmation, and deposit

  • Submitting a request does not guarantee date, time, route, price, vehicle, driver, or service.
  • The booking process requires a $99 non-refundable deposit unless a written confirmation provides otherwise.
  • A request becomes a reservation only after Critter Car accepts and confirms it.
  • Same-day, express, after-hours, airport, medical, and long-distance requests remain subject to availability and feasibility.

4. Information you provide

You agree to provide accurate, complete, and current information about addresses, timing, contacts, animal identity, species, size, health, medication, behavior, escape and bite risk, mobility, equipment, access, destination, and requested support. You must promptly disclose changes. Critter Car may modify or decline a service when actual conditions differ materially from the request.

5. Pricing and payment

Published rates are general pricing information, not a guaranteed total. Charges may include base service, mileage, waiting, medical chaperone time, after-hours fees, parking, tolls, ferries, equipment, crating help, additional pets, return travel, lodging, third-party costs, route changes, and extraordinary support.

You are responsible for all charges authorized in the confirmation and for reasonable additional charges caused by inaccurate information, delay, changed scope, inaccessible pickup or destination, failed handoff, airline or clinic delay, or another condition attributable to the request.

6. Cancellations, rescheduling, and changes

The $99 booking deposit is non-refundable. Additional cancellation, rescheduling, package, membership, credit, or refund terms are stated in the written confirmation or applicable service agreement. A changed address, time, pet count, equipment need, destination, appointment, flight, waiting expectation, or access condition may require repricing or may make service unavailable.

7. Animal preparation and client responsibilities

  • Provide secure, suitable, and functional carrier, crate, leash, harness, or other approved equipment.
  • Determine whether the animal is fit for travel and obtain veterinary guidance when appropriate.
  • Arrange airline reservations, veterinary authorizations, payments, records, permits, certificates, receiving access, and other third-party requirements.
  • Provide live primary and backup contacts throughout the service.
  • Prepare the animal for curbside pickup unless additional assistance was confirmed.

8. Safety, refusal, and service modification

Critter Car may delay, reroute, transfer, pause, refuse, or end service when reasonably necessary for animal, staff, driver, passenger, public, vehicle, weather, road, equipment, facility, or property safety; when information is incomplete or inaccurate; when a receiving party cannot accept the animal; or when the requested task exceeds available capability.

9. Veterinary, airline, and third-party services

Critter Car is not a veterinary provider, animal ambulance, airline, cargo carrier, government agency, or guarantor of third-party performance. Veterinary practices, airlines, airports, cargo offices, boarding facilities, groomers, relocation providers, payment processors, maps, and other third parties have their own terms and authority.

You remain responsible for medical consent, airline acceptance, destination entry, regulatory compliance, third-party charges, and the accuracy of third-party instructions unless a separate written agreement expressly assigns a task to Critter Car or Cats in the City.

10. Delays and events outside reasonable control

Arrival and completion times are estimates unless expressly confirmed otherwise. Critter Car is not responsible for delay or inability to perform caused by traffic, collisions, road work, weather, smoke, disaster, closure, flight change, clinic delay, cargo operation, parking, mechanical issue, labor disruption, government action, animal distress, inaccessible property, or another event outside reasonable control. We may use reasonable alternatives when available.

11. Website use and intellectual property

You may use this website for lawful personal or business inquiry related to Critter Car services. You may not disrupt the site, probe security, submit false requests, copy substantial site content for commercial use, misuse trademarks, scrape personal data, or interfere with another user. Critter Car, Cats in the City, TANDEM Cat®, and associated content, names, graphics, and materials are protected by applicable intellectual-property law.

12. Website and service disclaimers

Website information is provided for general operational and planning purposes and may change. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the website is provided without warranties that it will always be available, error-free, current, secure, or suitable for a specific purpose. Transportation obligations are defined by the applicable written confirmation and non-waivable legal rights remain unaffected.

13. Limitation and responsibility

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Critter Car is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential loss arising from website use, third-party conduct, missed flights or appointments, unavailable service, or circumstances outside reasonable control. Nothing in these terms excludes responsibility that cannot lawfully be limited, including rights and remedies that Oregon law does not permit a business to waive.

14. Indemnity for unauthorized or unlawful requests

You agree to be responsible for losses, claims, or costs caused by your false information, lack of authority, unlawful conduct, violation of these terms, unsafe undisclosed condition, or infringement of another person’s rights, to the extent permitted by law.

15. Governing law and disputes

These general website terms are governed by Oregon law, without applying conflict-of-law rules that would select another jurisdiction. Any dispute should first be raised with Critter Car or Cats in the City so the parties can attempt a practical resolution. Venue and any required dispute process may also be governed by a separate written service agreement.

16. Changes, severability, and contact

We may update these terms by posting a revised effective date. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to the extent legally possible. Failure to enforce a provision once is not a permanent waiver.
