Time and driver logistics
Total driving hours, return travel, overnight needs, lodging, traffic, ferry schedules, mountain passes, weather, and route restrictions affect feasibility.
Animal and equipment
Species, number of pets, carrier dimensions, mobility, medications, feeding, relief needs, behavior, and temperature sensitivity are reviewed.
Handoff requirements
Receiving hours, identity verification, paperwork, airline or clinic acceptance windows, keys, access instructions, and backup contacts must be confirmed.
Long-distance routes are quoted individually. The local $4.99 mileage rate may be one component, but custom routes can also include driver time, return travel, lodging, waiting, parking, tolls, ferries, after-hours service, equipment, and other direct costs.
Route preparation
Give the animal a travel plan, not just a destination.
Veterinary readiness
Guardians are responsible for determining whether the animal is medically fit to travel and for obtaining any required medications, records, certificates, or destination documents.
Secure carrier or crate
The equipment must fit the animal, vehicle, route length, and any airline or receiving-facility rules. Critter Car must approve unusually large equipment in advance.
Written handoff plan
Provide both parties’ contacts, addresses, identification expectations, payment status, access instructions, and what happens if arrival is delayed.
Food, medication, and supplies
Provide clearly labeled items and written instructions. Do not assume a driver can make medical or dosing decisions during the route.
Contingency planning
Weather, road closures, vehicle issues, airline delays, animal illness, and inaccessible receiving parties may change the itinerary.
Communication windows
Long routes should include agreed check-in points and a reachable decision-maker throughout the transportation period.

Critter Car focuses on ground transportation. Cats in the City provides broader cat relocation support for domestic and international moves, including care coordination and travel planning. Airline bookings, destination requirements, veterinary documents, import permits, and regulatory compliance remain separate responsibilities unless included in a written relocation agreement.
